Whenever another celebrity perfume hits the market, it's easy to get cynical and think, "Oh, great, another fruity-floral that smells like the others." "The others" are those fragrances that mix bright fruits and candy with sparkling flowers for overall generic bubblegum pink scents, the ones that have flooded the markets and taken girls and women of all ages prisoner. Yes, they smell good, but there's a lack of depth and character in many of them. Some celebrity perfumes have managed to escape, though, without conforming to the mold. In some cases, there may be fruity or floral notes, but there's something more, something warm or fresh, alluring or complex, that makes them different.
Kate Walsh Boyfriend: Kate Walsh's Boyfriend is supposed to walk the line between feminine and masculine, as it's meant to smell like a man's cologne left behind on a woman's clothing and sheets after a night together. Notes are a mix of dark plum, myrrh, skin musk, jasmine, vanilla woods, and amber.
Jennifer Aniston Jennifer Aniston perfume: Though this one gives the impression that it will smell like the beach, it's a gorgeous one-dimensional (and that's okay!) soapy jasmine that's light and pretty for spring and summer without bringing the obvious fruit scents into the equation (even though the top notes supposedly include citrus notes).
Kate Walsh Billionaire Boyfriend: After Boyfriend was released, Kate Walsh started working on her next scent, Billionaire Boyfriend, which has the same feel (your perfume mixed with your boyfriend's cologne) but different notes. It's sexy and dark, with citrus notes, patchouli, black velvet orchid, black jasmine, and woods.
Jennifer Lopez Glowing: Some of Jennifer Lopez' scents give the impression of getting smacked over the head by a fruit basket in a flower garden (resulting in a headache), but this isn't one of them. Beyond the interesting bottle that lights up, the scent inside is mesmerizing, with vetiver, lily, sandalwood, cypress, vanilla, musk, and patchouli.
Christina Aguilera By Night: If you love Dior's Hypnotic Poison, you already have an idea of what Christina Aguilera's By Night smells like. It's a warm, haunting, and "come-hither" scent, a warm vanilla cloud with underlying sandalwood, heliotrope, pineapple, amber, and oakmoss.
Kim Kardashian Gold: It's a little surprising that Kim's fragrance didn't go the mainstream route, but it makes sense that such a sultry scent would have her name on it. This one is full of rich, warm amber, benzoin, musk, and sandalwood. Despite the citrus notes and the whispers of violet and jasmine, there's nothing "fruity-floral" about this one.
There's nothing wrong with fruity-florals, but since they're everywhere and almost interchangeable due to similar notes from one fragrance to the next, it's nice to see a selection of celebrity perfumes that didn't go for the obvious.
